About Mutts With Manners

Mutts with Manners’ chief instructor, Maria Cunningham, first started training dogs at the tender age of 7 but resisted becoming a professional trainer until 1993. In the interim her intense involvement in the training of horses in the 1980s taught her the skills that are now considered ‘revolutionary’ in the dog training world – motivational training.

Her first professional role was as Assistant Trainer for Sydney Community College in Leichhardt, running the group training lessons. Through her ongoing study of dogs, their behaviour and various other professional’s methods, combined with the lessons taught to her by horses, Maria developed her own ‘Think Dog’ methodology. Humans are supposed to be the superior species after all, so why shouldn’t we learn their language!!
